A County Court judge today awarded one-point-three million dollars in damages to a former student of the ultra-orthodox Adass Israel School in Melbourne.
She was one of at least eight students abused by the school principal, Malka Leifer.
She's now under house arrest in Israel, contesting extradition to Australia.
The school also arranged for Leifer to fly out of Australia within hours of the complaints being raised in 2008, which Justice Jack Rush described as 'deplorable', 'disgraceful' and 'deliberate'.
Today's judgement is expected to be the first of many for sex abuse victims from the once reclusive Orthodox Jewish school system.
Manny Waks is a victim of abuse himself and now actively campaigns on behalf of other victims.
He's told Laura Tchilinguirian he hopes this decision opens the way for other victims to claim reparations.
