David Werdiger
Last week I posted on my blog that David Werdiger was a member of a Chabad Institutions Victoria Limited (CIVL) Constitutional Review Taskforce and the pain and suffering which this caused victims/survivors of child sexual abuse at Yeshivah owing to his previous conduct in this area.
I wrote: David Werdiger has previously written to me complaining that my pursuit of his cousin, serial sexual abuser Velvel Serebryanski, would result in him being ‘branded a pedophile for life’ and describing him as ‘harmless’. Last month, it was reported that Victoria Police are expected to issue a warrant for the arrest of Serebryanski (who is now living in New York) and that police have two victim statements, as well as video evidence from my confrontation with him in 2017, where he admitted to having been ‘infatuated’ with me and that he had ‘only wanted to do what (I) wanted’ when he sexually abused me on multiple occasions when he was in his mid 20s and I was 11 or 12 years old. Several other Yeshivah victims also hold Werdiger responsible for some of the re-victimisation which they have suffered.
Today I have received extraordinary correspondence from Werdiger's lawyers alleging that I breached his copyright by including a photo of him which appears on Google, his website and which he uses as his Twitter profile picture (please see below).
As a public advocate for victims/survivors of child sexual abuse, I have received all sorts of legal threats from people who have tried to intimidate me into silence or used various petty and trivial matters to have a go at me.
Of course, everyone is entitled to defend their reputation and their rights - however, this is truly the most bizarre legal threat I've ever received. I guess when you can't refute the allegations themselves...
