Email response from the rabbi:
Dear Manny
With regard to the incident and comments made by [REDACTED] to your tenant, I wish to convey the following:
1. The comments are extremely hurtful, absolutely abhorrent and totally unacceptable!
2. [REDACTED] has been admonished in very strong terms and now deeply understands the wrong he has done. He has expressed his desire to apologies to you and I understand he has sent you an apology or will do so very soon.
3. Until last year [REDACTED] led the [REDACTED]. Since then he stepped down from this role and is just a voluntary member on the roster of the [REDACTED]. Upon my instructions he has now been removed from the roster and is not allowed [REDACTED]. Currently [REDACTED] has no formal position at [REDACTED] and does not represent [REDACTED] in any capacity.
4. I wish to also personally apologies to you for this incident that occurred outside my [institution] and by a member of my [REDACTED]. I have been very distressed about this incident. My stance has been conveyed to you in the past both personally and in writing that harassment in any shape or form of victims of abuse or their families are totally unacceptable. I stand firmly by this stance and have and will continue to express this stance to members of my community publicly. I sincerely hope that such incidents will never occur again from any member of my community or from anyone else.
Wishing you and you family a shana tova and to hear only good tidings
Yours Sincerely
[REDACTED]
Retraction and apology from the offender:
Dear Manny
I want to sincerely apologise for the hurtful comments that I made to your tenant about you which were totally wrong, and unjustified.
Since the incident I have been advised in detail from my family and the Rabbi of [REDACTED] of the battle you went through including the harassment you and our family suffered during the process. My comment was totally out of line and I totally retract the statement and sorry for the hurt that I have caused.
I will also ensure that I will no longer approach any of your tenants for any conversation in the future.
[REDACTED]
I also received an apology and message of support from the offender’s son with whom I’m friends.
From my perspective, this incident is now behind us and I hope that we won’t have to encounter any more such incidents in the future.
